WA awards innovation in mining

The WA Government has announced the opening of applications for the 2025 WA Innovators of the Year (WAIOTY) awards.
The awards create opportunities to highlight mining and resource sector focused startups and emerging businesses.
Rio Tinto (ASX: RIO) is the primary sponsor of the awards with two awards given in its name the Rio Tinto Emerging Innovation Award and the Rio Tinto Growth Innovation Award.
This year’s program recognises WA innovators across seven different awards with winners sharing in a prize pool of more than $280,000. Winners in the Rio Tinto Emerging and Growth categories will be awarded $60,000 each and runners-up will receive $15,000.
A new award category has been introduced this year, WA Young Innovators of the Year, to recognise outstanding high school aged individuals or teams that are driving innovation for WA.
The awards aim to encourage co-support from industry for promotional activities and strengthen industry-government research collaborations whilst engaging communities throughout WA.
The awards are part of the WA Government’s $25.8m New Industries Fund (NIF) that aims to support and encourage innovation in new and emerging businesses to diversify the economy and drive new job creation and industries across the state.
