RocketDNA signs South32 contract in South Africa for drone surveying

RocketDNA Ltd (ASX: RKT) has signed a five-year contract with South32 (ASX: S32) via Hotazel Manganese Mines (PTY) LTD in South Africa for drone surveying services at two mine sites. The contract is with RocketDNA’s subsidiary, Rocketmine (Pty) Ltd, valued at $1.18m and annual recurring revenue of $236,000. South32’s manganese operation in South Africa is located in the Kalahari Basin, home to 80% of the world’s manganese. It is made up of the Metalloys manganese alloy smelter in Meyerton, Gauteng, which remains in care and maintenance, the open-cut Mamatwan mine and the underground Wessels mine. South32 remains in a strong position with the release of its September quarterly report today, maintaining its FY21 production guidance across all operations. The company also delivered a US$70m increase in its cash position to reach a net cash balance of US$368m, a 23% lift from its FY20 US$298m. South32 has continued to surge on the back of its Groote Eylandt Mining Company operation (GEMCO), with exploration plans underway designed to leverage even more value from the manganese mine. GEMCO is an open-cut mining operation in the Gulf of Carpentaria, 50km from the Northern Territory mainland, producing high-grade manganese ore that is then shipped to South32’s Tasmanian manganese alloy plant (TEMCO) and around the world.
