AMPT readies mines with training for every trade

Anyone that has stepped foot on a mine site is well aware of the stringent induction processes in place. Safety protocols, emergency procedures, risk management strategies, all of which are instilled upon you in an instant.

Beyond this, keeping mines and their workforce up-to-date on current industry practices and compliant within their respective jobs, no matter their trade, requires ongoing professional training.

Whether it’s a new product release, a technical skills gap, changes to safety regulations when it comes to plant or machinery operation, the mine environment is a constantly evolving.

Training is therefore an essential component of a mining operation, not only keeping personnel safe and compliant, but building competency and providing opportunities to improve the way in which they perform their job.

Advanced Mine Performance Training Services (AMPT Services) is a registered training organisation (RTO 51822) specialising in the development and delivery of nationally recognised training to the mining, drilling, and transport industries.

The Mandurah based trainer operates right across Australia, but also supports international clients.

The Australian Mining Review spoke with AMPT CEO, Craig Smith, to learn how the organisation educates personnel and keep them correctly trained, equipped and up-to-date with relevant safe work practices.

“We only use qualified and experienced trainers in our business,” said Mr Smith.

“AMPT team members have worked in the industries we serve, both in Australia and overseas, as trainers, drillers, shotfirers, shift supervisors and operations managers. “We keep on top of the latest technology trends and industry legislation, which is reflected in the design of our training courses.

“Our business is approved to deliver traineeship programs in most Australian States through various government funded training initiatives.”

Training that’s Tailored for Trades

In the mining space, the business specialises in both surface and underground mine training, from inductions and site training systems through to advanced drilling techniques and shotfiring operations.

It offers drilling companies dedicated training for drill teams in remote locations. This includes nationally accredited training for drill offsiders up to drilling managers.

As a registered training organisation, AMPT Services supply training and assessment of drill teams in the field, ensuring personnel are nationally certified for the applications at hand.

The company also provides specialised training in the high-risk field of Shotfiring, and are approved by the Western Australian Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety and the Australian Skills Quality Authority, to deliver Shotfiring courses for both surface and underground mining operations in Western Australia.

Mr Smith said the business is also now authorised by the WA Department of Transport to conduct training and assessment for HR-B trucks.
