TRS - Total Rockbreaking Solutions - The Australian Mining Review

Hard rock mining in the Pilbara can be challenging on people and equipment. Extreme heat, hard rocks and abrasive dust mean that for equipment to last it needs to be built extra tough to endure the elements and survive 24/7 operation.

Western Australian company Total Rockbreaking Solutions (TRS) is well renowned for having the right boom for every industry application and has become a leader in high-duty rockbreaking systems for remote mine sites.

The company offers a full range of fixed pedestal mounted rockbreaker boom systems, hydraulic power units, and its revolutionary boom automation and remote operation system, BoomSafe®, as well as clean-fill lubrication systems and tool change facilities. It is also an exclusive dealer for a wide range of premium hydraulic attachments.

TRS Australian Made High Duty Booms

According to TRS Engineering Manager, Paul Ingleson, the HD Series boom systems have been designed for high duty applications with reliability, safety and speed in mind for modern, large throughput mines where operators must work the rockbreakers hard and continuously.

“The HD booms represent the first real development in pedestal boom system design in well over a decade,” said Mr Ingleson.

“Engineered to handle the stress of constant use, they operate faster, have longer reach, and carry larger hammers than previous generations of boom systems.

“With increased performance and reliability, as well as several contemporary enhancements, including single touch DEPLOY and PARK commands, our HD boom system range has been welcomed by mineral resources operators in Pilbara.

“These advancements ensure routine movements at the start and end of every operation are carried out at maximum speed and without risk of collision with surrounding infrastructure.

“The range is 7-models strong, spanning from 22.5 to 25.8 tonne, with reaches up to 17.8 metres.”

For longer reach applications, the TRS XD Series booms are available with capacity to carry extra-large hammers such as the Rammer 3288E and 4099E.

The XD Series booms have reaches of 18m to 24m, and are designed to meet the increasing requirements of modern operations that have very large gyratory and ROM bin applications.

With the same features as the HD series, the XD range has increased over-turning capacity and is also designed to withstand the rigours of constant, heavy use.

Large Range of Rammer Booms

Rammer Boom systems have been an integral part of Australian crushing circuits for more than 40 years.

Manufactured for the global market, Rammer has 28 models ranging from one tonne up to heavy-duty 18 tonne models. With reaches from one metre up to 17 metres, there is a boom to suit all types of mining and quarrying applications, from small stationary crushing plants and mobile crushers, to larger gyratory crushers and ROM bins.

As the exclusive and authorised WA dealer for Rammer hydraulic attachments and boom systems, TRS helps customers take advantage of the extensive product range available by selecting the right boom and rockbreaker for the job.

Packaging this with the correct controls and hydraulic power unit to match specific site requirements, TRS can optimise the installation and ensure reliable operation with maximum productivity and serviceability.

BoomSafe® Improves Safety and Efficiency

As its name suggests, BoomSafe® is designed to not only help miners improve their productivity, but this state-of-the-art boom automation and control system also helps to ensure workers go home safe every day.

With simple remote operation connectivity, multiple rockbreakers can be operated from a single workstation from anywhere in the world through the plant network – without any operator being exposed danger.

At the heart of BoomSafe® is an automated collision prevention system allowing your maintenance staff to set up a safe work area where the boom is allowed to operate.

BoomSafe’s® unique ‘Operator Assist’ function automatically corrects and adjusts the human operator-initiated movements to direct the boom back into the safe work area instead of halting the boom operation and requiring further operator intervention to continue.

Designed for Ease of Maintenance

If maintenance is required, all BoomSafe® components can be replaced in minutes using only hand tools on site without specialist technicians. Sensors are mounted independently to the boom hydraulic components and are easily accessible.

With TRS BoomSafe®, users can set the direction, acceleration, maximum speed, and minimum creep speed for each joint of the hydraulic boom independently. This level of control enhances the boom system’s performance, improves ease of operation for local and remote operators and reduces unnecessary wear and tear on mechanical components.

TRS Premium Spec Hydraulic Power Units

To complement their growing list of hydraulic products, TRS has developed a range of premium spec hydraulic power units to maximise availability and reliability in the toughest environments.

These packaged systems are self-contained, fully enclosed units and are fitted with pockets for forklift handling and lifting lugs for ease of installation.

With internal lighting, bolted roof panels and a full enclosure with all side panels either bolted or hinged, complete access to the internal components is possible for maintenance.

Multiple test points are also installed throughout the hydraulic circuit to facilitate condition monitoring and troubleshooting.

Any spillage during servicing and maintenance is also contained within the large sump to avoid accidental discharge to the environment.

Each system boasts an impressive list of standard features and, depending on the project requirements, a large range of optional features which are readily available, including foam fire suppression, bladder breathers and additional filtration and condition monitoring.

The onboard stainless steel control panel features double-skin doors to protect panel mounted switches, lights, and the HMI screen, from the elements. Internal wiring and electrical components can be customised to suit any site electrical standards and specifications.

Industry Leading Support and Turnkey Solutions

Complete turnkey solutions are also available, which include fill lines, drain lines and all interconnecting tube and hoses.

“We encourage collaboration with our customers to ensure the final product meets all their requirements and expectations,” Mr Ingleson said.

“This is just part of the comprehensive service we provide all our customers. Whether it’s the sales, engineering or service team, it’s about helping customers choose the right rockbreaker, boom, controls and hydraulic power unit to suit their application and maximise safety and production”.
