Mineral Resources (ASX: MIN) has awarded a five-year contract to Buru Rehab for road maintenance and civil work at its Wodgina lithium mine in WA.

Indigenous owned Buru Rehab provides professional mine rehabilitation and earthwork services, and owner George Todd says the company is excited with the work.

“Along with civil works, Buru Rehab will undertake rehabilitation for MinRes’ exploration and mining activities, restoring the land and supporting it for future uses,” he said.

Located 110km south of Port Hedland, Wodgina is one of the largest known hard rock lithium deposits in the world and is held in a 50:50 joint venture with Albemarle Corporation.

All mining operations are managed by Mineral Resources, which includes a spodumene concentrate processing plant featuring three trains with a capacity of 250kt of 6% spodumene product.

Spodumene product is then transported by road to Port Hedland for export to global markets.

Mineral Resources general manager of communities and heritage Heath Nelson says the contract will provide successful subcontracting opportunities for other Indigenous owned businesses.

“We’re pleased that Buru Rehab is providing subcontracting opportunities for other Indigenous owned businesses, giving them security to invest in their own machinery and equipment,” he said.

“This contract will have positive flow-on effects for years to come, offering ongoing employment opportunities for people living in the Pilbara.”
