Flender keeps things moving

Flender

Flender has been a trusted supplier of high-quality, industry-specific drive components to the mining industry. Founded in 1899, Flender is a leading, tech-enabled provider for mechanical and electrical drive solutions and globally renowned for its more than 125 years of expertise and solution delivery.

The company stands for comprehensive know-how in all questions of mechanical and electrical drive technology and for the highest quality in products and services. Its high-quality, committed employees have been the key to its innovative power and performance right from the start. They are also the basis of Flender’s special consultative expertise, which is supported by a wide range of products for all key industries.

Flender was commissioned by BHP (ASX: BHP) to provide conveyor and shuttle drives for its South Flank iron ore operations in Western Australia. Under the contract, Flender supplied 50 conveyor and shuttle drive assemblies from 4kW to 2,500kW, and 6 boom conveyor drives for the stacker and reclaimer package, as well as one feeder drive.

This was one of Flender’s largest projects for BHP, both in value and scope, strengthening our longstanding and trusted partnership.

The delivery consisted of:

  • Flender FSG bevel-helical gear units
  • Flender Couplings
  • Flender Oil Supply Systems
  • Toshiba LV- & -MV motors
  • Svendborg Hydraulic Brakes
  • CJC Off-line Filtration Systems
  • Locally designed and fabricated drive-bases and guarding
  • Locally project-managed and assembled in Perth

All drives were delivered on time and within budget, further expanding Flender’s significant footprint in the Pilbara — home to the world’s highest concentration of Flender conveyor drives.

Since 1979, Flender is present in the Australian market and has supplied gear units and couplings that have played an integral role in driving the Australian mining industry forward.

With its presence in 33 countries globally, the company has a remarkable breadth of knowledge and experience from which the Australian team draws. In Australia, Flender has one of the largest installed bases of drives in the country, and has expanded its service footprint to cover Perth, Sydney, Rockhampton and Melbourne, all of which are equipped to provide full OEM support, repairs and testing.Flender pdf
