AGR sodium cyanide plant expansion receives additional funding Australian Gold Reagents (AGR) has received the next stage of funding to expand the capacity of its sodium cyanide plant. Three years in the making, the expansion will increase AGR’s production capacity by around 28ktpa from its existing production to more than 90ktpa. This expansion will position AGR as the world’s third-largest sodium cyanide produce for gold mining operations across Australia, the Americas, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Effective mine waste management isn’t simply about containment. It’s a complex relationship between science, technology and economic considerations which aims to minimise environmental impact, mitigate risks to human health and foster sustainable practices that endure beyond the life cycle of a mine. Whilst mining has been conducted for millennia, the storage and handling of associated waste has only in recent decades been the focus of government and public scrutiny according to Associate Professor Anita Parbhakar-Fox from the Sustainable Minerals Institute at the University of Queensland.
