Venture Minerals (ASX: VMS) is selling its wholly-owned subsidiary, Venture Iron, to Gold Valley Brown Stone. Venture Iron is the holder of the Riley iron ore mine in Tasmania which has been on care and maintenance since 2021. The sale isn’t subject to any conditions precedent and it’s expected to be completed on July 8, 2024. Upon completion of the sale, Venture Minerals will transfer 100% of the shares in Venture Iron to Gold Valley for $3m, of which $50k has already been paid as a deposit. Venture Minerals and Gold Valley will work together to transfer various governmental approvals required for the continued operation of the Riley iron ore mine. Renascor Resources (ASX: RNU) has begun an early contractor involvement (ECI) process with two engineering and construction firms for its proposed Siviour Mine and Concentrator in South Australia. The contracts are with GR Engineering Services and Primero Group. The ECI process will focus on the progression of engineering and maturation of the design of the minerals processing plant and non-processing infrastructure for the upstream portion of Renascor’s planned vertically integrated battery anode material graphite mine and manufacturing operation (BAM project). New work will build on work already undertaken as part of the definitive feasibility-level battery anode material study and will include process design improvements. The search for materials needed to support the renewable energy transition and make technology products is heating up across Victoria. Victoria has demonstrated presence of antimony, titanium, zirconium and rare earth elements, as well as opportunities for other key raw materials such as copper, silica and high purity alumina. New exploration licences have been granted across the State to target these minerals and metals, in particular, antimony, zircon, copper and mineral sands. The Earth Resources Regulator has approved 50 new mineral exploration licences in FY24, with six granted in June so far. Representatives from some of the world’s biggest mining, steel and energy companies have met in Adelaide for a major forum of companies interested in South Australia’s green iron and steel future. This comes as the State Government outlines a path to be a leader in the global decarbonisation of iron and steel, and follows the release of its green iron and steel strategy. The strategy outlines three objectives and nine key actions the Government will lead to establish a world-leading green iron industry and supply chain in South Australia, including the ambition to facilitate a new hydrogen-based green iron plant in the State by 2030 or earlier. A pre-feasibility study has determined production capacity at Pilbara Minerals’ (ASX: PLS) Pilgangoora operation in WA could exceed 2mtpa. This expansion is expected to result in the first 10 years of production averaging around 1.9mtpa spodumene concentrate, with production of more than 2mtpa over the first six years after ramp up. This expansion project will be named the P2000 project and it would further extend Pilbara Minerals’ position as the largest pure play lithium producer in the world. It also revises the mine life to 23 years. P2000 requires the construction of a new whole of ore flotation plant at Pilgangoora which will complement existing processing flowsheets currently in use at the operation. Australian Vanadium (ASX: AVL) has received a $14.7m grant from the Federal Government as part of the Modern Manufacturing Initiative – Manufacturing Collaboration Stream. In May 2023, Australian Vanadium and the Federal Government executed a Commonwealth grant agreement to the value of up to $49m. The grant will assist AVL, in collaboration with industry partners, to create an Australian vanadium battery industry. The grant funds eligible activities to construct and commission a crushing, milling and beneficiation plant and high-purity vanadium processing facility capable of using green hydrogen to partly fuel the extraction process for the project. An Aboriginal heritage survey has been scheduled for Lycaon Resources (ASX: LYN) Stansmore project in the West Arunta region of WA. The survey has been booked with the Central Desert Native Title Services and is scheduled to begin on July 11, 2024, with the aim of clearing targets for ground-based geophysics and drilling in Q3. A preliminary study into the potential carbon dioxide emissions from Impact Minerals’ (ASX: IPT) Lake Hope high purity alumina (HPA) project in WA show Scope 1 and 2 emissions will be significantly lower than competing processes that produce HPA. The low emissions apply to both sulphate and low-temperature-leach (LTL) processes that are being considered by Impact to produce HPA as part of the pre-feasibility study for Lake Hope. The emissions study showed that using WA’s current electricity supply, likely emissions are 4.38t of carbon dioxide per tonne of HPA produced via the sulphate process and 3.44t of carbon dioxide per tonne of HPA for the LTL process. Designed to improve productivity and increase operational flexibility, the AutoMine Interoperable ACS builds on the AutoMine flexible safety zone by enabling non-Sandvik, third-party autonomous equipment to operate seamlessly in AutoMine access-controlled isolated zones. With AutoMine Interoperable ACS, a fleet of underground loaders, trucks, drills and auxiliary equipment can now be managed with one safety system. Dozer operators at Anglo American’s Capcoal Complex in Queensland are in training to embrace remote control technology to improve operator safety on site. A remote-controlled stockpile dozer is being trialled at the operation ahead of plans to retro-fit the entire fleet. Once this technology is fully deployed across all of Anglo American’s sites, in-cab dozer exposure time will be reduced by 45k to 75k hours a year. This remote control dozer trial has been named a finalist in the innovation and safety categories at the Queensland Mining Awards.
