Whitehaven’s crane and heavy haulage professionals
2025 marks the 50th year of business operations for GBP Cranes & Heavy Haulage, a family-owned local business that has been closely associated with Whitehaven Coal since their arrival, proudly supporting their lifting and haulage requirements across all sites.
The company is a key member of the Gunnedah community, employing more than 60 locals and providing cranage, haulage and heavy lift capabilities across the region.
GBP are the on-site lift specialists and preferred partner/supplier to Whitehaven Coal.
In 1975 GBP commenced operations, supplying concrete blocks to the local mines. The company began expanding into lifting operations with its first crane, a second hand 6t crane that arrived in 1977.
Today GBP Cranes & Heavy Haulage operate a large modern fleet of Terex Franna’s, that boast up to a 40t capacity, as well as 250t Liebherr slew cranes and a crawler crane.
Further business expansion has resulted in GBP becoming specialists in heavy haulage, moving over dimensional loads throughout NSW and Queensland.
GBP also have a fleet of trailers available to accommodate any load, ranging from tilt trays through to low loaders and including platform trailers up to 10 rows allowing capabilities of transporting equipment up to 150t.
GBP and Whitehaven have partnered on many projects, most recently the Narrabri long wall move, hauling roof supports and ancillary equipment to workshops in Newcastle and Mudgee regions.
The company provided cranes and haulage services, to support the demobilisation and oversize transport of the Werris Creek fleet of equipment that included drill rigs, Cat 789 dump trucks and Hitachi 5600 excavators from Werris Creek to Vickery.
GBP has a large modern workshop located in Gunnedah, purpose built to independently maintain its fleet, with weigh bridge and additional storage facility to store mining equipment.
The company’s new site boasts a state-of-the-art office and training facility
Being a local business, GBP are extremely responsive and cater to not only the larger planned shutdown works that occur over the year but also respond rapidly to short notice requirements to meet the needs of clients.
