Transmission repairs and replacements made easy

Perth Truck Transmission Services-

Perth Truck Transmission Services (PTTS) is at the forefront of the transmission game in WA, known for the rapid turnaround of ZF manual and automated manual transmissions, as well as Mack M Drive, Volvo I-Shift, and Mercedes-Benz units. Its team boasts more than a century of combined experience, backed by a commitment to diagnosing and rectifying transmission issues efficiently and effectively.

PTTS owner-operator Ashley Purcell highlighted the rising demand for Volvo I-Shift and Mack M Drive services.

“In recent years, we have observed a significant increase in the number of Volvo I-Shift and Mack M Drive transmissions requiring overhaul or replacement,” he said. “The large number of Volvo and Mack vehicles sold in the past 10 years now need their transmissions assessed. We have the facility, experience, stocked parts and manpower, to support customers in a timely and cost-effective manner.”

The company frequently encounters several common transmission issues, including transmissions slipping out of gear, crunching between gears and noisy operation.

This year, PTTS has seen a record number of units deemed beyond economical repair, necessitating the provision of replacement units.

Purcell emphasised that the culmination of skill and experience has enabled the company to always find components that will operate correctly and without further issues inside a transmission.

“In my opinion, we are the original recycling industry,” he added. “The importance of our geographical location, cannot be overstated as this gives us the ability to maintain a stock of parts and core transmissions, especially when supply lines from transmission-producing European headquarters are stretched.”

Purcell and the PTTS team dedicate their expertise to advising, diagnosing and delivering the best transmission solutions possible to clients every day.

High-Capacity Transmissions

WA trucks primarily use the highest capacity transmissions available from manufacturers.

According to Purcell, “Our current number one product is the Volvo or Mack ATO 3112D transmission, designed to handle 3,150 Nm of torque. Despite its robust design, PTTS still encounters instances where gear teeth fracture due to the high stresses placed upon the transmission gearing.”

PTTS strives to keep a current range of Mack and Volvo transmissions in stock, operating on an exchange basis. The company serves a diverse clientele, including local transport operators, large mining operators, standalone truck mechanics, workshops and truck dealerships.

Separately, Mercedes-Benz holds a significant market share in WA’s heavy vehicle sector. PTTS offers overhaul services for the 9, 12 and 16-speed transmissions found in Atego and Actros models.

“We maintain stock of common failure items, such as synchronizers and bearings, ensuring quick sourcing of necessary parts through their trusted supplier network,” said Purcell.

“As an independent business, we don’t face lengthy waits for parts. We will find the right part somewhere. We don’t rest on our laurels; the faster we get the job through the door, the faster we get paid.”

PTTS also deal with OEM suppliers on a daily basis and are able to supply gearshift actuators for ZF, Volvo and Mercedes models.

Perth Truck Transmission Services continues to lead the industry in transmission repairs and replacements across WA. Their commitment to quality workmanship, rapid service and a comprehensive understanding of various transmission systems ensures that clients receive reliable and efficient solutions tailored to their needs.
