Tivan (ASX:TVN) has initiated a desktop and site-based works program to accelerate the environmental approvals process for the Speewah vanadium-titanium-iron project in WA.

Perth-based environmental consultancy Animal Plant Mineral (APM) was engaged to undertake an environmental approvals scoping study for Speewah.

This allowed APM to begin early engagement with key regulatory stakeholders, confirm environmental approval pathways, identify knowledge gaps in existing environmental data and develop scopes of work for baseline technical studies.

The scoping study has now been completed and informs the baseline and technical studies required to support the environmental impact statement for Speewah.

Tivan has now commissioned a number of desktop environmental assessments with specialised consultants for terrestrial biology, short-range endemics, subterranean fauna, hydrology and hydrogeology.

A two-season comprehensive biological survey is also required for Speewah, consistent with the WA Environmental Protection Authority environmental factor guidelines.

APM will conduct these surveys, with the dry season biological field survey scheduled to begin in early August.

Commencement of these studies and the site-based survey is an important step towards progressing a comprehensive environmental assessment for Speewah.

Tivan executive chairman Grant Wilson commented on the surveys.

“Commencing site-based surveys at Speewah ensures that Tivan remains on its expedited path to project delivery,” he said.

“Our early, genuine and inclusive engagement with Traditional Owners since April has provided the basis for Tivan to proceed whilst the dry is here this year. Our team and colleagues will tread gently and respectfully on country.”
