Brooks brings in the big guns
With a 45-year history in the mining industry, Brooks has ramped up their services to facilitate Australia’s top end mining players
Starting as Brooks Hire in 1979, Brooks has expanded to include divisions in Mining, Equipment Sales, Access, Site Services, Cranes, Transport, and Airways. The expansion has given Brooks the power to service Australian mining companies in every facet of the industry.
XCMG Equipment Dealership
In a major industry power move, Brooks Equipment Sales has entered an exclusive dealership agreement with the world’s third largest equipment manufacturer, XCMG. XCMG first caught the attention of Brooks Equipment Sales, when Managing Director, Stuart Brooks was looking for new mining products to offer his clients.
When taking the dealership into consideration, Brooks wanted to be sure that XCMG’s products would meet and exceed Australian industry standards. To do this, Brooks purchased a range of XCMG equipment across all categories and put them into their hire fleet.
“We put them to the test out in the Pilbara, which is arguably one of the toughest mining environments in the world, and the XCMG machines didn’t skip a beat,” said Mr Brooks. “I’m happy to put my name behind the brand because I know our customers won’t be disappointed,” he continued.
In a show of support to the Australian mining industry, XCMG opened their 5th worldwide Technical Centre right next door to Brooks Equipment Sales’ headquarters in Welshpool, WA. The Technical Centre ensures a steady supply of OEM parts, along with on-the-ground technical training and support.
Stirring up a lot of interest in the XCMG range, is their pure electric equipment. XCMG has been making exciting progress in the field of electric equipment, bringing new technology that is ahead of its competitors. Australian mining company, Fortescue recognised the superiority of XCMG’s electric equipment, recently signing a contract to purchase over 100 pieces of zero emissions heavy mobile equipment, a contract with a potential value of more than US$400 million.
Brooks Equipment is authorised to sell XCMG machinery in WA, SA, NT, and the majority of Queensland.
Brooks Mining
The introduction of the Brooks Mining division was to provide a dry hire service that specifically caters to mining clients and their needs.
Previously, Brooks Hire only had the capacity to hire out excavators up to 80 tonnes. With the XCMG dealership firmly in place, Brooks Mining now has the capacity to dry hire excavators up to 700 tonnes, haul trucks up to 300 tonnes, front end loaders up to 170 tonnes, along with a range of other mining equipment such as graders, dozers, rollers, and forklifts.
Brooks Mining can tailor equipment hire packages to suit individual projects. Machinery can quickly and easily be scaled up or down as projects expand or contract.
To support mining companies in the Pilbara region, Brooks has acquired two new properties in Port Hedland and Karratha.
“These new branches are a base for our mining equipment,” said Stuart Brooks. “When customers need machinery fast, we’ve already got the equipment close by, ready to deliver.”
Like all Brooks divisions, Brooks Mining offers 24/7 field service and maintenance so that clients can continue working around the clock with little to no downtime.
There by Air
Something that most customers don’t know about Brooks is their long history in the aviation industry. Brooks CEO and Founder, Doug Brooks is a commercial pilot. In the early days of Brooks Hire, Doug would use his personal aircraft to fly to customers in remote locations to perform machine maintenance and deliver parts.
Today, Brooks Airways has a fleet of Beechcraft Aircraft from 9 to 19 passengers for corporate charters, FIFO flights, and urgent freight deliveries. Their Beechcraft twin turbo props can access remote airstrips that larger commercial lines can’t, making Brooks a first choice for mining industry flights.
Brooks also offer a medevac service through their other airway division, Medical Air. The Medical Air fleet consists of six ICU fitted Learjets. These aircraft can travel at high speed over long distance to anywhere in Australia without needing to refuel. Medical staff and pilots are on standby to offer urgent bed-to-bed patient transfers.
“We’ve been making some positive changes to the way Brooks service the mining industry,” said Stuart Brooks. “We want to assure our customers, that Brooks is Australian mine site ready in every sense of the word.”
“We have the machines, parts, and expertise to fully support the industry. The site services team is designing and installing full site setups including accommodation, power, and water supply. Brooks Airways are doing nonstop FIFO flights,” Stuart continued.
From hire, to sales, supply, to service, Brooks is expanding to become a one stop shop for Australia’s ever growing mining industry.
