Optimising mining operations with integrated IT/OT solutions

Denver Technology

With over 35 years of industry experience across Western Australia and Queensland, Denver Technology has become a trusted name in delivering tailored IT/OT solutions for the mining sector. We sat down with Keren Jenns, Chief Technology Officer at Denver Technology to discuss their approach to IT/OT integration and the challenges facing modern mining operations.

Overcoming IT/OT integration challenges

“Mining companies often struggle to integrate on-site OT with corporate IT,” explains Keren Jenns. “We provide the expertise to streamline operations, reduce costs, and simplify systems. With the industry responding to increased demand for critical minerals, flexibility is key. We’re helping clients restart mines and repurpose assets to meet market demands.”

The Role of IT/OT in Mining

“Mining operations today are more data-driven than ever before,” says Keren. “The ability to integrate IT and OT seamlessly is essential for efficiency, safety, and long-term sustainability.”

This is why it’s paramount for Denver to provide expert support across key project phases, ensuring a seamless transition from initial planning to operational excellence:

  • DFS (Definitive Feasibility Study): “Here, we balance technical and financial planning to optimise IT/OT solutions while managing costs and risks.”
  • FEED (Front-End Engineering Design): “Early-stage planning is crucial,” explains Keren. “We work with clients to align IT/OT infrastructure with project objectives from the outset.”
  • Construction: “Implementation is where we work closely with EPCMs to design, install, and commission the infrastructure,” says Keren. “It’s about ensuring seamless execution.”
  • Commissioning: “This phase is where we validate that all systems are fully operational, integrated correctly, and meet both regulatory and operational requirements.”
  • Operations: “Once a mine is operational, our managed services handle system monitoring, performance optimisation, and cybersecurity.”
  • Care & Maintenance/Decommissioning: “Mines don’t last forever. We assist with asset preservation, data archiving, and system decommissioning to maintain compliance and infrastructure integrity.”

Security and engineering excellence

Cybersecurity is a major focus for Denver Technology.

“We base our security implementations on the Purdue Model,” says Keren. “Aligning OT environments with strong security frameworks protects critical infrastructure from cyber threats while enabling automated, efficient operations.”

Beyond security, Denver Technology also provides infrastructure architecture and management.

“It’s about ensuring mines remain operational, secure, and resilient against both physical and digital threats,” adds Keren.

The future of mining technology

As mining operations move towards automation and digitalisation, Denver Technology is focused on innovation. “We work with IIoT, AI, and automation to improve communications across mine sites — from pit to port,” explains Keren.  “Virtualised infrastructure solutions can enhance performance and resilience while reducing hardware requirements.”

Collaboration with EPCMs

Denver Technology collaborates closely with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) firms to ensure IT/OT solutions integrate seamlessly with engineering projects. “We bring expertise in data management, compliance validation, and adaptive technology roadmaps,” says Keren. “Our role is to ensure technology is not an afterthought but an integral part of project success.”

With a commitment to innovation, security, and operational efficiency, Denver Technology continues to set the benchmark for IT/OT integration in the mining sector, helping companies navigate an increasingly digital and sustainable future.

Strategic advisory for mining companies

Beyond integration, Denver Technology provides CIO/Advisory Services to help mining companies align their technology investments with long-term business goals. “Mining is evolving rapidly, and companies need a strategic approach to IT/OT,” says Keren. “We guide clients on governance, Technology frameworks, and cybersecurity.”
